Evaluation Planning

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing the product?

For this question I plan to use prezi as I feel that will be a good and appropriate format for breaking down the technology used and the importance of it. In this I am going to look mainly at the mac and also the camera.

Looking back to your preliminary task, what do you feel that you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

For this question I am going to answer simply on a voice note audio recording as I do not want to distract too far from the question. I am going to re-evaluate my preliminary task, look at my final piece closely and see in what ways I  think there is a difference.

How did you attract/address your audience?

For this section I am going to use a website called goanimate.com, this website allows you to create short carton video clips. I am going to try and cover;

Who the target audiences are,
How we identified them,
What we did to attract them
What ways could be used to gain their interest

Conventions

For answering this question I am going to use 9 Key Frames analysis. I chose this format because it enables me to choose 9 key moments within my piece, and analyse them in detail. By doing this I can highlight where I have conformed to or challenged conventions.

E.g.

Instutions

For this I will present it using a Infograohic. This is usefull because it can utilize all different types of displaying information into one sourcfe. It can include pictures, graphs, text etc. I will include onformation on why I chose those this institution, what films have they done similar to this, what other types have they done and how successful have they been in the past.

Social Groups Representation

There was not much representation of different social groups within my peice, but I am going to look at the few represented, and other ones relevant to the peice. I am going to describe the social groups, explain why i used them, how i used them and why i used them in this way. I am going to present this part of the evaluation using a website called PowToon. I am also going to include extra research on the social groups which I am including in the evaluation. Most of the research will be from; http://www.uktribes.com. I will alson include photographs of social groups and how they are geneally presented within the media, and screen shots to show how i have represented them.

Font

We considered a number of fonts to use to build the text for our opening sequence, selected from a website called DaFont.com. We looked for fonts that would help build on our genre of horror, and partially conformed to the conventions due to this.

In some ways conventions were followed because we used red thick sticky type font which is often associated with horror. However we also challenged conventions as these are not often used as main text, particuarly titling.

This font was a strong contender, as although it strongly suggests the genre of horror, it is not too difficult to read, as many are. It is quite simplistic and would sit nicely into most shots.

This was another font we looked at and strongly considered. It caught our attention initially because it was quite similar to the text used for "Dexter", one of our main inspirations.

Evaluation Questions

In the lesson today we looked at the questions that are mentioned in the mark scheme for our evaluation. We then in our groups) put them into what we felt the order of importance to be, but this was all individual opinion as there is no correct answer.

I put "Who would be the audience for your media product" as the most important because to make any product you need to know who the target audience is to be able to attract and please them. If you do not know your target audience then you cannot make a product that will be in demand, or be successful. The nextimportant to me was how did you attract your audience, as I think that is the most important thing to the success of any media peice, but you cannot attract them if you have not decided who they are.

Institution (Planning)

For this I will present it using a Infograohic. This is usefull because it can utilize all different types of displaying information into one sourcfe. It can include pictures, graphs, text etc. I will include onformation on why I chose those this institution, what films have they done similar to this, what other types have they done and how successful have they been in the past.

Filming Day 3

Today we filmed the scene in the bar with 2 main characters. We got a good amount of footage but there was some problems but to get the angles we needed we had to shoot directly into a window from which sunlight was coming straight through. This may cause some issues later. However, we got enough footage from other positions and we may be able to use that part for just editing transitions.\

Filming Day 2

Our actors were ill today so we couldn't film what we wanted to get. But to try and make good use of the time filmed the beginning of our title sequence at our first location and we also managed to get the permission needed to film the bar scene. We got extra artistic shots and cutaways.

Filming Day 1

We filmed the beginning of our title sequence at our first location and we also managed to get the permission needed to film the bar scene. It would have been better if we got the chance to travel further to film this part of the sequence and if we could get equipment to be able to film a tracking shot for this part of the sequence because filming it by hand would mean that the footage would be shaky and unprofessional.

Rough Edit

This is a rough first edit. It is missing some footage and contains some editing that is just experimental and will be changed. There is some footage missing as there is one more scene that is yet to be filmed, also there is one other scene (and part of the pub one shown) which we have that has not been included yet. When we return on Monday/Tuesday I will finish editing the footage that we have so far. We will also very soon have the extra footage which I will add when we have it. The music and titles have been created and finished, but were on another mac which we could not access at the time, these will also be added in on Monday/Tuesday. With the footage presented here, I particularly like the smoke shot and the sped up time lapse of the sky, I think these more abstract shots work really well. The parts which caused the most problems were so far were the ones from in the pub. This was to get the desired angles we had to shoot directly into the window that had the sublight coming through. This means the lighting was poor in some shots.

Mad Men Opening Sequence

This title sequence grabbed my attention as something new and different. It is full of enigma codes of what the show is about. It also seems to have been inspired by the work of saul bass. The first thing that I was reminded of was Saul Bass's opening to vertigo, with the visual disorientation which to me looked quite similar. Another was Saul Bass's North by Northwest, with a similar style and representation of the Manhattan skyline.

When the silhouette falls, the slow, laid back place suggests a dream like state, and the pace of everything else flashing by past him could be representing his life flashing by his eyes, connoting a near death situation. This matches the whole image of the man falling from the sky.

I also liked the whole approach taken with the silhouette and modern cartoon style but it was not too technological or advanced

Man Of Steel Title Sequence Timeline

Here I looked at a title sequence that followed the conventions concerning structure to see how it was put together. I payed particular attention to the roles mentioned, how long they were up for, aswell as what times they were put up, to take note of the order.
