Filming Day 3

Today we filmed the scene in the bar with 2 main characters. We got a good amount of footage but there was some problems but to get the angles we needed we had to shoot directly into a window from which sunlight was coming straight through. This may cause some issues later. However, we got enough footage from other positions and we may be able to use that part for just editing transitions.\

Filming Day 2

Our actors were ill today so we couldn't film what we wanted to get. But to try and make good use of the time filmed the beginning of our title sequence at our first location and we also managed to get the permission needed to film the bar scene. We got extra artistic shots and cutaways.

Filming Day 1

We filmed the beginning of our title sequence at our first location and we also managed to get the permission needed to film the bar scene. It would have been better if we got the chance to travel further to film this part of the sequence and if we could get equipment to be able to film a tracking shot for this part of the sequence because filming it by hand would mean that the footage would be shaky and unprofessional.

Rough Edit

This is a rough first edit. It is missing some footage and contains some editing that is just experimental and will be changed. There is some footage missing as there is one more scene that is yet to be filmed, also there is one other scene (and part of the pub one shown) which we have that has not been included yet. When we return on Monday/Tuesday I will finish editing the footage that we have so far. We will also very soon have the extra footage which I will add when we have it. The music and titles have been created and finished, but were on another mac which we could not access at the time, these will also be added in on Monday/Tuesday. With the footage presented here, I particularly like the smoke shot and the sped up time lapse of the sky, I think these more abstract shots work really well. The parts which caused the most problems were so far were the ones from in the pub. This was to get the desired angles we had to shoot directly into the window that had the sublight coming through. This means the lighting was poor in some shots.

Mad Men Opening Sequence

This title sequence grabbed my attention as something new and different. It is full of enigma codes of what the show is about. It also seems to have been inspired by the work of saul bass. The first thing that I was reminded of was Saul Bass's opening to vertigo, with the visual disorientation which to me looked quite similar. Another was Saul Bass's North by Northwest, with a similar style and representation of the Manhattan skyline.

When the silhouette falls, the slow, laid back place suggests a dream like state, and the pace of everything else flashing by past him could be representing his life flashing by his eyes, connoting a near death situation. This matches the whole image of the man falling from the sky.

I also liked the whole approach taken with the silhouette and modern cartoon style but it was not too technological or advanced

Man Of Steel Title Sequence Timeline

Here I looked at a title sequence that followed the conventions concerning structure to see how it was put together. I payed particular attention to the roles mentioned, how long they were up for, aswell as what times they were put up, to take note of the order.
